Her World Doc Talk Nov: Natural, Instant Fixes
It’s never too late for a quick pre-event pick-me-up. Dr Karen Soh, medical director of Privé Clinic, tell you more about treatments that give natural, yet instantaneous results just in time for your festive parties!
- The year-end is coming up and I’ll be attending a small gathering with friends I haven’t seen since last year. How can fillers help me look my best especially when we now have to wear a mask (my issues are sunken cheeks, a sunken undereye area and dark eye circles)?
Sunke cheeks, undereye area and dark eye circles are actually very common issues with my patients at Privé.
The under eye area is one of the first areas on your face that shows significant signs of ageing. Under eye (tear trough) fillers can help to reduce dark eye circles, fill under eye hollows and minimise eye wrinkles. Apart from volume loss, dark eye circles may form due of a lack of sleep, alcohol consumption, nasal allergy, or simply genetics. Other causes of dark eye circles include thin skin and collagen loss.
By using soft gels containing hyaluronic acid, a natural bio-degradable compound found in your connective tissues, we can volumise the area and stretch the skin so that the area does not appear hollow. Dark shadows are reduced by plumping up the sunken areas around the eyes too. At Privé, we recommend combining it with Elite Eye Treatment which uses radio frequency energy to tighten skin for an immediate lift to boost results. With this combination, the under eye areas can be treated safely and effectively to give both immediate and long lasting results. Patients often note that they look considerably younger and less tired afterwards.
To target sunken cheeks, dermal fillers can be used to sculpt our face to give our face more definition and enhance our facial features. Aside from the hyaluronic acid fillers, we may also offer collagen boosting fillers which has the additional ability to promote collagen production over time. These collagen boosting fillers can be evenly distributed in the entire face, or focused injections can be performed in specific target regions for instance at the mid cheek region and the lower face for to plump up cheek hollows.
For dermal fillers, it would cost approximately $968 to $1,288 per area depending on the type of fillers used.
- I’ve long accepted that I have the worst kind of RBF – angry and sullen looking – but I really need help now because it’s beginning to look worse because of my frown and marionette lines. I look sad and sulky all the time now.
Botox treatments would be idea in this case as it will help to relax the muscles in the face that create fine lines and wrinkles and also to prevent further deepening of lines. Botox will stop further progression of these lines because it slows or stops the muscles from making the folds in the skin. The tiny muscles in the area will be relaxed and will therefore not be able to contract and cause the skin to fold, or fold less. As this movement is slowed or stopped over time, the existing lines or wrinkles will also fade.
The art to Botox is to achieve the best, most natural looking results it must be placed in the right muscle, in the correct place, at an ideal dose, by an experienced doctor. The latest trend is known as Baby Botox. It is a great entry level treatment for anyone that doesn’t want to have a heavy look and can also be used as a preventive measure. Baby Botox is one of the most sought after treatment especially amongst the younger patients at Privé. Simply put, it’s a great treatment for anyone who wants to look more refreshed and approachable.
Marionette folds and lines are caused by three separate factors: gravity, loss of volume and the depressor muscles at the corners of your mouth. The course of treatment will depend more on how you hold your face at rest and during expression. It is easily treated if say the corners of your mouth have a downward turn. In other cases, we will use dermal fillers in the corners of the mouth. This adds volume and helps to move the mouth corners forward so your lower lip is supported, creating a more upwards turned mouth corner.
For more severe cases, we may recommend combining this with Ultherapy for more significant lifting results, along with collagen boosting fillers which has the additional ability to promote collagen production over time.
- I’m in my early 40s and really regretting the sun exposure of my younger years. I have many freckles all over my face and some dark patches that can’t seem to go away no matter how much brightening skincare I use.
Sun spots such as freckles, dark spots, age spots, melasma and all types of brown patches can appear throughout the face, décolletage and body. This is commonly caused by overexposure to the sun, pregnancy, genetics, skin trauma and hormonal changes. To treat dark spots, the sooner you tackle the problem, the less intervention will be required.
A popular celebrity laser known as PicoSure is one of the star laser treatments here in Privé to treat and reduce pigmentation. PicoSure Laser is the first of a new generation of aesthetic lasers that uses PressureWave™ instead of heat to target melanin, the pigment that causes dark spots in your skin. PicoSure has a unique lens called Focus™ Lens Array that is known to be 20 times more powerful than the normal lens. It works by using ultra short laser pulses which breaks down the pigment into tiny dust particles – leaving patients with noticeably improved skin in only a few sessions with little to no downtime. Depending on the size, shape, and type of discolouration, it may require a different number of sessions. PicoSure Focus treatments are clinically proven to effectively lighten unwanted pigment and discolouration, and uniquely stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin — thus achieving excellent results without the pain or downtime of other laser treatments.
After a skin analysis and assessment by the doctor, we will customize the laser settings and mode of laser based on the skin condition to achieve optimal results. The doctors at Privé Clinic are trained to assess and tailor made the treatment process according to the different type of pigmentation as we have wide variety of treatments from products, supplements to chemical peels and lasers to help remove unsightly dark spots to achieve flawless, younger-looking complexion and better skin texture.
Lastly, I would recommend for patients to invest in the right laser treatments, Vitamin C serum and most importantly sunscreen protection for preventative measures.
